Application Timeline Overview

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship process follows a strict timeline each year. Missing a deadline by even a minute can result in your application being rejected by the DreamApply portal. Understanding this timeline is crucial for planning your application.

Mid-November

Portal Opens

The official DreamApply application portal opens for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program.

Nov - Jan 15

Application Period

Submit your complete application through the online portal. Make sure all documents are translated, notarized (if required), and uploaded before the strict January 15 deadline (usually 2 PM Central European Time).

February 28

Preliminary Selection Results

Results published by the sending partners (governments of each participating country). Only nominated students move to the next stage.

March - May

University Entrance Exams

Hungarian Universities conduct online entrance exams and interviews for students who passed the preliminary nomination round.

Late June

Final Results Announced

Final scholarship allocations are published by the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF), and official Letters of Award are issued.

July - August

Visa Application

Visa application process for successful applicants begins. Book your embassy appointment immediately, as slots fill up fast.

September

Arrival & Classes Begin

Arrive in Hungary, secure accommodation, finalize enrollment, and start your degree!

Missing Documents Deadline

If you submitted a Declaration for missing documents (like a final medical certificate or graduation diploma), the strict deadline to upload them is typically August 1st.

Timeline Preparation Tips

1

Start preparing your documents (especially translations) at least 1-2 months before the portal opens.

2

Do not wait until January 15th to apply. The portal often crashes on the last day due to high traffic.

3

Prepare for potential university entrance exams during the "waiting period" between January and March.

4

For visa applications, begin gathering required financial/accommodation proof as soon as you are nominated.

Country-Specific Variations

Your Sending Partner handles the preliminary selection (the February 28th deadline). Because each country has different internal processing times, there can be slight variations.

Example: Bangladeshi Students

  • You must also apply through the Ministry of Education portal alongside the main DreamApply application.
  • The national deadline to drop off hard-copy documents at the Ministry in Dhaka is often earlier than January 15th.
  • Preliminary selection results from the Ministry might be announced slightly later than February 28th.

Join the Community

While waiting for results, use your time to join housing and student groups like Budapest Flats and Apartments for Rent to understand the housing market before the August rush.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I miss the application deadline?

The Stipendium Hungaricum program is very strict about deadlines. Late applications are typically not accepted under any circumstances. The portal will simply lock you out. Submit everything before January 15th.

Can I apply if I'm still completing my current studies?

Yes, you can apply while completing your current studies. However, you must provide proof of expected completion (a Declaration) during the application, and you must upload your final transcripts/degree before August 1st.

How long does the visa process take?

The Hungarian Type D student visa process typically takes 4-8 weeks, but it can vary heavily by country and embassy workload. As soon as you receive your Letter of Award in late June, book your appointment immediately.

What happens if I miss the entrance exam?

Most universities do not offer alternative dates for online entrance exams or interviews. If you miss your scheduled exam between March and May, you will likely be disqualified from consideration for that program.
