The A-Z Rules of the Computer Test

Don't lose points on technicalities. Here is exactly how the digital IELTS reading section works.

1. Absolute Time Limits

You have exactly 60 minutes to complete 40 questions across 3 passages.

  • Crucial Difference: Unlike the paper test, there is NO extra transfer time at the end. When the clock hits 00:00, your screen locks immediately.

2. The Split-Screen UI

The screen is split perfectly in half. The passage is always on the left, and the questions are on the right.

  • They scroll independently. You can keep the text fixed while scrolling through the questions.
  • You can use standard keyboard shortcuts (`Ctrl+C` / `Ctrl+V`) to copy words directly from the text into short-answer inputs to avoid spelling mistakes!

3. Highlighting & Notes

You can interact directly with the passage just like you would on paper.

  • Select any text, right-click, and choose Highlight.
  • You can also add Notes to highlighted sections. These highlights and notes disappear when you move to the next part, but are great for scanning.

4. Navigation & Review

At the bottom of the screen, you will see a navigation bar showing all 40 questions.

  • You can jump to any question at any time.
  • If you are unsure of an answer, you can check the "Review" box. The question number will change from square to circular, reminding you to check it before time runs out.
